A mountain guide, a cable, iron stirrups and the specialized equipment from Mountain Sports will provide you with all the safety features you need to set off up those vertical granite walls. It truly is an exhilarating feeling as you clamber up those rock faces, completely exposed with practically nothing between you and the valley below.
Our fixed-cable tours include some of the very best routes in the entire Zillertal valley. All of our Via Ferrata´s have been constructed in recent years and are very popular destinations.
A-Easy
Easy, secured routes. Flat or vertical ladders and iron stirrups, generally in terrain that is not too steep. Occasional exposed areas, though easy to navigate (rocky ledges etc.). The terrain is easy to negotiate even without being hooked on, with the exception of ladders over minor rock faces), with plenty of good foot- and hand holds. In general, if you are a surefooted walker with no vertigo-type problems, you will not need to secure yourself along the route.
B-Moderate
Quite a bit steeper rocky terrain, occasionally with more cramped footholds, exposed segments. Vertical, longer ladders, iron stirrups, pegs or chains. Some segments are quite strenuous and sap your strength. Without safety features, some areas would require technical climbing up to Level 3 (on the UIAA scale). Even many experienced mountaineers will resort to use of via ferrata equipment.
C-Intermediate
Steep to very steep rocky terrain. Generally stages with cramped footholds, virtually always exposed. Overhanging ladders, iron stirrups and pegs, which may well be located further apart. Often vertical segments secured only be a steel cable. Occasionally very tiring. Without safety features, some areas would require technical climbing up to Level 4 (on the UIAA scale). Longer climbs at this level of difficulty represent a major undertaking. It is recommended that even experienced mountaineers hook on to safety features. Inexperienced climbers should rope up with an experienced partner.
D-Difficult
Vertical, often overhanging terrain. Iron stirrups and pegs are frequently far apart. Very exposed and steep rock faces, generally only secured by means of a steel cable. Longish and sometimes overhanging segments requiring a high level of arm strength, as well as good overall physical conditioning. Occasionally also demands relatively easy climbing (up to level 2) without the assistance of safety features. Fixed-cable equipment is a must even for experienced mountaineers. Not for beginners!
E-Extreme
Places extreme demands in terms of strength and surefootedness (climbing shoes may be necessary), with vertigo problems an absolute no-no! Reserved purely for the specialists. This level of difficulty is very rare for fixed-cable routes. And in virtually all instances, you must be roped up with climbing partners. Otherwise, conditions are a more intensified version of what was described under "difficult".

The Huterlaner Fixed-Cable Route is actually almost right here in Mayrhofen, a convenient location that makes it a very popular destination. We especially recommend this particular route for children and newcomers to the sport. And right at the end of the climbing route you will find Gasthof Zimmereben, a great spot to stop in for refreshments and a well-earned rest.

The Zimmereben Fixed-Cable Route is also located close to Mayrhofen. It is quite impressive, especially because climbers are tested at the very outset by an overhang, one which has managed to scare off many a climber in the past. Often climbed in combination with the Hutelaner route.
