Ski Touring at the End of the World – Discover the Antarctic Peninsula

A journey into a world of eternal ice, majestic peaks and untouched wilderness. Aboard an expedition ship, we explore the fascinating Antarctic Peninsula and experience one of the last great wilderness areas on our planet. Surrounded by towering icebergs, rugged mountain peaks and endless snowfields, we discover an extraordinary ski touring destination offering countless opportunities for unforgettable summit experiences.

Penguins line the shores, seals rest on floating ice floes and, with a little luck, whales accompany us through the icy waters. Historic research stations tell stories of the great polar explorers and their pioneering expeditions. Yet the true highlight of this adventure is the ski touring itself: against a breathtaking backdrop, we ascend remote peaks through pristine snow and enjoy spectacular descents overlooking the vast Southern Ocean.

An adventure far from civilisation – wild, intense and truly unique.

Travel to Ushuaia
Our journey begins with a flight to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in Argentina, with a stopover along the way. Depending on the flight connections available, the journey may take us via Buenos Aires or another international transit airport. Given the long journey and possible time differences, we recommend allowing sufficient time for arrival and rest before our Antarctic adventure begins.

Arrival & Briefing
We recommend spending one or two days in Ushuaia before embarkation, taking the opportunity to enjoy some initial ski touring in the impressive mountains surrounding the southernmost city in the world. This allows us to prepare for the Antarctic adventure ahead and discover the unique landscapes of Tierra del Fuego.

Note: The exact travel arrangements for the outward and return journeys will depend on the available flight connections.

Day 1: Arrival in Ushuaia, Argentina. Welcome and welcome dinner. Overnight stay at a hotel in Ushuaia.

Day 2: Embarkation aboard the Albatros Expeditions vessel and departure through the Beagle Channel.

Days 3–4: Crossing the Drake Passage. With a little luck, fin whales, humpback whales and numerous seabirds will accompany us on our journey. We then reach Deception Island, a natural harbour of volcanic origin, where we enjoy a ski tour through the unique Antarctic landscape.

Day 5: Ski touring around Neko Harbour in Paradise Bay.

Day 6: Ski touring on Anvers and Wiencke Islands. We also visit Port Lockroy, a former research station that now serves as a museum.

Day 7: Ski touring on Rongé Island and around Mount Britannia. We also visit the penguin colony at George Point.

Day 8: Ski touring in Paradise Bay. In addition, we take Zodiac excursions, visit a penguin colony and explore the Almirante Brown Station.

Day 9: Ski touring in the Lemaire Channel area and around Mount Scott, Mount Demaria and Mount Mühle. We also visit the Ukrainian Vernadsky Research Station.

Day 10: Ski touring in Charlotte Bay. In the evening, we begin our return journey north.

Days 11–12: Return crossing of the Drake Passage, passing the impressive cliffs of Cape Horn.

Day 13: Arrival in Ushuaia and disembarkation.

FAQs

Ski bag as additional luggage | sports luggage

You will need a ski bag for all ski touring trips. This is reserved in addition to the flight ticket. The surcharge varies from € 40 - € 70 per ski bag. We will discuss all these details with you in the packing list you will receive after booking.

Is insurance included in the trip?

Our tours do not include insurance cover as most guests already have private cover. Please also check prior to the tour if your insurance covers the booked trip. We will be happy to provide you with an insurance offer for the booked period.

Our recommendation - ski boots in the hand luggage?

In addition to your normal hand luggage, ski boots should be carried in your hand luggage. The reason is delayed luggage! You might be able to organise skis in your destination country, but boots that fit are practically impossible.

Ahead of each ski tour, we discuss all open questions and details of the planned tour individually.
