Splitboardcamp at the Heidelberger Hut
... Freeriding in the ski resort Ischgl ... cool lines in the backcountry
The Heidelberger hut with its surroundings is a wonderful location. The touring mountains in the Silvretta border triangle are beautifully lined up in a semicircle around our base. This high alpine landscape offers an amazing scenery with wildly rugged peaks and wide slopes as far as you can see. Heidelberger hut at 2264 m is very comfortable and with a connection to the Ischgl-Saumnaun skiing area it is a brilliant combination for your powder technique training and first splitboard tours. Experience the best of powder and splitboard touring with tours to the Larainfernerspitze at 3009 m and Piz Davo at 3027 m.
Your mountain guide will welcome you at 12:00 in Ischgl. The host from the Heidelberger hut brings our luggage to the hut at 2264 m. We will reach the hut with a light backpack through the skiing area Ischgl/Piz Val Gronda. During the evening meal we will go through the program and plan the coming touring days.
Ski training in deep powder in the Ischgl skiing area. A cable car takes us from Gampenalp at 1975 m to Palinkopf at 2864 m. An update of the ski technique training is planned for today. Afterwards we will try and put this specific ski technique to use in deep powder. Your mountain guide will plan the skiing day according to your ability and the current snow and weather conditions.
Avalanche awareness, avalanche transceiver practise and ascent ski technique training. Today you will learn about avalanche awareness, how to interpret the avalanche situation report and you will absolve an extensive training in the use of an avalanche transceiver. You will also practise a basic ascent technique training for a ski tour: walking with climbing skins, track setting and kick turns.
The destination for our first ski tour is the Larainfernerspitze at 3009 m. We will practise our newly acquired technique and set our first tracks ascending. The ski training will most certainly be noticeable on the downhill run. Altitude difference 750 m. Walking time 3 hours
Ski tour to Piz Davo Lais at 3027 m. We are setting off southwards to Davo Lais gap at 2807 m and further towards the peak. Just below the peak we will make a ski depot in order to walk the last metres without skis. The way back to the hut takes over wide deep powder slopes. Altitude difference 770 m. Walking time 3,5 hours
Ski tour to Kronenjoch at 2958 m. With a bit of routine and a light backpack we set our track in southern direction to Kronenjoch at 2958 m. If possible, we will also try to reach Breite Krone or Grenzeckkopf at 3029 m. Because in Austria we say, “A day without a summit is a wasted day!” A wonderful downhill run to the Heidelberger hut ends the touring day. Altitude difference 1150 m. Walking time 4 hours
We will descend after breakfast. Our luggage will be transported by the hut taxi and we will ski back to Ischgl.
In Ischgl we will say our goodbyes and return home.
