. . . the Haute Route of the Eastern Alps
An impressive ski crossing with the most beautiful peaks of the eastern Alps, the Großvenediger 3674m and the Großglockner 3798m. This alpine crossing leads from Kasern in South Tyrol through the fascinating summit and glacial landscapes of the Venediger area to the Großglockner. The challenging 6-day tour requires a high level of physical fitness, as well as confident and advanced skiing in open terrain.
|Day 1: Meeting 9:00 am at the Matreier Tauernhaus. Transfer to Hinterbichl. The route leads to Maurertal to the Essener Rostocker Hut 2.207m. Gain 1000Hm |
Day 2: Essener-Rostockerhütte to the Großer Geiger 3,360 m and via the Türmljoch down to the Johannishütte. Gain 1150 m - descent 1250 m
Day 3: the route leads past the Defreggerhaus to the Rainertörl and continues to the summit of the Großvenediger. Descent to the Innergschlöß, the most beautiful valley head of the eastern Alps. Gain 1550 m - descent 2000 m
Day 4: from Matreier Tauernhaus up to the Amertaler Höhe. Descent into Landecktal valley and climb to the Granatscharte. Descent to the Rudolfshütte alpine center. Gain 1820 m - descent 900 m
Day 5: climb to the Granatspitze 3086 m, steep descent via the southern flank down to the Dorfersee and through the long Dorfertal to the Kalser Tauernhaus. By taxi to the Lucknerhaus. Climb to the Stüdlhütte.
Gain 1650 m - descent 1300 m
Day 6: climb up the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain at 3798m. In the last section, rock-climbing experience is required. The descent leads via the Ködnitzkees to the Stüdlhütte and the end point of the Hochtirol ski route, the Lucknerhaus. Gain 1000 m - descent 1900 m
