The Tuxer Alps 4 days
... comfortable huts and great skiing
The foothills of the Tuxer Alps are an ideal ski touring area with optimal terrain for beginners to the world of ski crossings. Due to the favourable snow conditions it is possible to ski till early spring time. It is a unique feeling to leave your tracks on the sunny, snow-covered slopes of the alpine pastures. Small and exceptionally comfortable huts lie along our path and offer rest and refreshments for the various stages of the tour.
We will start our tour from Gasthaus Roswitha on Schwendberg. The ascent to Rastkogel hut leads us over the alpine pastures of the Sidan Valley. Already visible from afar, the Rastkogel hut lies high above us. Once we have deposited our luggage in the hut, we will prepare ourselves for the coming days with a small avalanche transceiver update and practice our ascending technique on the way to Kraxentrager at 2425 m.
Ascent 1060 m – descent 330 m.
Our day begins with a short descent. In front of us lies the distinctive peak of Rastkogel at 2762 m with its countless small side valleys. Our tour leads us gently uphill to a height of 2640 m. The ascent gets steeper again until we reach the peak where we can explore our further route. A short descent follows before we put the climbing skins on again and ascend to Nafingjoch. Here we will decide if we ascend to Halslspitze at 2574 m or if we descend directly to the Weidener hut. Ascent 1180 m - descent 1500 m
Already experienced we prepare ourselves for the ski tour to Hobarjoch at 2574 m. The summit is visible from the hut. First the tour leads us to the end of the valley and then over Geiseljoch at 2292m to the summit of Hobarjoch. From here we ski fluently over the wide alpine pastures to Vallruck hut. Now it is time to put the climbing skins on again and ascend to Torspitze at 2663 m. We leave our tracks behind us over well-structured western slopes till we reach today’s destination, the Lizumer hut at 2019 m. This Kings Stage can be shortened by 220 m by leaving out the ascent to Hobarjoch. Ascent 1440 m - descent 1220 m
After a rustic evening in the hut we will track over the scenic path towards Torjoch at 2386 m. Coming past theTorseen (lakes) our tour takes us to the most panoramic mountain of the Tuxer Voralpen, the Torspitze at 2663 m. With a speedy deep snow run we will soon arrive at Geiselhöfe at 1645 m. Here Heidi will look after us very well while we review our ski crossing. An alternative in good conditions would be to ascend to Torwand at 2771 m and descend over Nasse Tux Alm to Geiselhof. Ascent 720 m - descent 1100 m
