1 day - 2 Via Ferrate
A not very difficult but very exposed rocky passage forms the beginning of this route. This "Via Ferrata" with 700 meters of climbing and its approximately 300 vertical meters is recommended for advanced users. Among the features of this via ferrata are a variety of beautiful sections, occasionally vertical climbs and a good view of Mayrhofen. Gasthaus Zimmereben can be reached in just 5 minutes.
The entrance to Astegg via Ferrate is located directly next to the exit of the Pfeilspitzwand via ferrate. The entrance ramp is followed by a ca. 50 m high rock wall, then rock and forest terrain. The route then leads along ca. 200 m to the foot of the wall, partly in rock, and on until a ca. 100m high climbing wall. A hiking path then leads along a forest trail and on towards Gasthaus Astegg and the Mariensteig Trail descent to Mayrhofen ca. 1 hour.

What exactly is a via ferrata?
A via ferrata is a climbing route that employs steel cables, rungs or ladders, fixed to the rock to which the climbers affix a harness, which allows the climbers to secure themselves to the metal fixture and limit any fall. The cable and other fixtures, such as iron rungs (stemples), pegs, carved steps, and ladders and bridges, provide both footings and handholds.
