Ski tour destinations around the Fitz Roy and the Hielo Continent
Cerro Castillo is located 100km south of Coyaique, in the Aysén region of Chile. It´s an amazing area for the ski touring and backcountry ski, and is very pristine, away from Cities and ski resorts. Considered one of the hidden treasures of Southern Chile, with several mountains and Valleys to explore around!
The Villa Cerro Castillo is very small, with 500 inhabitants, and basic services: Grocery store, cafeteria, cabins. The new “Refugio Cerro Castillo” will be our base. A long day driving , but very scenic as well, will be on day 7 from Villa Cerro Castillo to El Chaltén, 800km , mostly on the famous “40 road”.
El Chaltén offers the possibility to climb and ski moderate mountains with incredible surrounding views of Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre and the Southern Ice Field. Some of the ski options will be: Loma del Diablo, Cerro Vespignani or Crestón and Cerro Madsen. These places are very remote, with incredible views of Fitz Roy and the Glaciers! You´ll rarely find any other people around. The program in Fitz Roy area, it´s designed to do 2 or 3-day trips plus one camping trip for one night. This flexibility will allow you to adapt according to the weather conditions.

Requirement
The ski tours are suitable for experienced tour-skiers with deep-snow experience. Controlled and safe skiing in any kind of snow and slopes of 35 ° should not be a problem. The ascent rate is between 1,000 and 1,800 Hm / day. Uphill kick turn technique required. Exercise in dealing with crampons is required, crampons and pick axe are used in the tours. Ski tour tour experience is an advantage, but not mandatory. A valid international health and accident insurance is required for participation.
Program
Day 1: Flight to Santiago – Balmaceda
Day 2: Reception at Coyhaique Airport and transfer to Villa Cerro Castillo. Lodging at Villa Cerro Castillo. Briefing with the guide; equipment check and details of the program.
Day 3: Ski at Portezuelo Ibáñez. Lodging at Villa Cerro Castillo.
Day 4: Approach day to Camp Neozelandés. Optional Ski in the afternoon. Camp Neozelandés.
Day 5: Full day ski Cerro Castillo area. Camp Neozelandés.
Day 6: Possible ski tour in the morning. Back to Villa Cerro Castillo in the Afternoon. Lodging at Villa Cerro Castillo.
Day 7: Long Day on the road, Transfer to El Chaltén ( Aprox. 12-14hs drive). Lodging at El Chaltén.
Day 8: Transfer to Mosquito Creek; Ski Loma del Diablo (1800m). Vertical drop: 1200m. Lodging at El Chaltén.
Day 9: Transfer to Lago del Desierto. Ski Cerro Vespignani ( 2146m). Vertical drop:1500m. Lodging at El Chaltén.
Day 10: Approach to Fitz Roy Basecamp. Ski in the afternoon at Glacier de los Tres. Camp. Poincenot.
Day 11: Ski Cerro Madsen (1806m). Vertical Gain1000m. Back to El Chaltén, lodging at El Chaltén.
Day 12: Transfer to El Calafate Airport. End of the services.

Preparatory meeting
The date for the meeting will be set as early as possible, but not until we have been able to determine whether or not we will have enough participants. The company Mountain Sports makes every effort to organize an expedition professionally. This also includes the preparatory meeting. We are committed to providing our guests with complete important information and optimal materials. Both are important for the success of an expedition, if not essential.
Travel documents
For Chile, Argentinia no visas are required. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the travel dates.
Climate
The climate in the month of September can be compared to the months of April/May in Central Europe. During the day, it may be comfortably warm, but at night, the temperature may fall below freezing.
Vaccinations
The following vaccinations are highly recommended: polio, tetanus.

Early registration will ensure your place and will make the work of Mountain Sports much easier. For offers with train or flight arrival included in the package price, early registration is essential. Last-minute registrations may result in higher prices.
FAQs
Ski bag as additional luggage | sports luggage
You will need a ski bag for all ski touring trips. This is reserved in addition to the flight ticket. The surcharge varies from € 40 - € 70 per ski bag. We will discuss all these details with you in the packing list you will receive after booking.
Is insurance included in the trip?
Our tours do not include insurance cover as most guests already have private cover. Please also check prior to the tour if your insurance covers the booked trip. We will be happy to provide you with an insurance offer for the booked period.
Our recommendation - ski boots in the hand luggage?
In addition to your normal hand luggage, ski boots should be carried in your hand luggage. The reason is delayed luggage! You might be able to organise skis in your destination country, but boots that fit are practically impossible.
