Ski touring trip to Chile
Skitouring at the fire ring
Spring firn snow in October
For 4350 km, Chile stretches from the border of Peru to Tierra del Fuego. The central part of the country between Temuco and Puerto Montt is full of national parks. Along with mountains, lakes, and forests, these also offer a pleasant climate. In addition, there is a chain of volcanoes here, for example the Lomquimay, Antuco, Osorno, Llaima, Villarica, ...we don't have to decide, we can ski down them all. We will have great accommodations in the valley, enjoy spring in October, swim in hot springs, and savor Chilean food and good wine.
The volcanoes in Chile are technically simple but should not be underestimated, because they have very long and, in the morning hours, hard firn-snow flanks, requiring crampons for a safe scent.
Also, every participant must be able to safely ski slopes with a gradient of 35° - 40° and accomplish climbs of 1100 to 1500 meters per day without a problem.
Day 1: We begin our flight to Santiago, Chile
Day 2: Arrival in Santiago, overnight stay at the hotel
Day 3: We will get in our rental car and travel south to Antuco, where we will stay overnight in a cabana.
Day 4: Our first ski tour leads us to the Antuco volcano 2985m. Once we arrive at the summit, we can enjoy the wonderful view of the many lakes of Chile, and we can look forward to the 1000 m firn snow descent that lies before us. We will again stay in Antuco in our cabana.
Day 5: Our second ski tour leads us to the neighboring mountain of Antuco, the Sierra Velluda 3585 m, where we will have the very best firn snow. After a long and beautiful tour, we continue to Curacautin/Malalcahuello, where we will stay in Hosteria Suizandina for 5 days.
Day 6: After a good breakfast, we will have plenty of energy for our next volcano, the Lonquimay 2865m. Then we can enjoy apple strudel with custard at Hosteria Suizandina.
Day 7: Because our legs will be so tired, today is a day of rest/relaxation in the spa. Overnight stay at Hosteria Suizandina
Day 8: We will start early, since 2000 m lie before us. Our goal is the wonderful Llaima volcano 3125m; firn snow at its finest is definitely worth the effort of the climb. Overnight stay at Hosteria Suizandina
Day 9: The Serra Nevada is a ski tour that initially leads us through forests of monkey puzzle trees and offers a beautiful view of our last volcano from the summit ridge. In bad weather, there will be a day of rest/relaxation in the spa; overnight stay at Hosteria Suizandina
Day 10: Ski tour on the Tohluaca, transfer to Pucon, here we are now in the tourist mecca of central Chile; overnight stay at the hotel
Day 11: The most famous volcano in this region is the Villarica 2853m, and our starting point is the small ski area at the foot of the still-active volcano. After a dose of sulfur at the summit and a beautiful descent, we will go back to Pucon; overnight at the hotel
Day 12: Extra day/rest day -individual activities. In Pucon, you can enjoy great Chilean cuisine and stroll through the shops. Or you can enjoy a boat ride over Lago Villarica ; overnight at the hotel
Day 13: We travel by car to the Osorno volcano. Here, we will make our way up to the Teski hut, where we will stay overnight. The hut is located right on the mountain by a small ski area. Overnight stay at Refugio Teski
