High-Altitude Tour Week Ortler
... Stunning tours with the ascent of the Ortler, 6 days
With its impressing 3905 m, the Ortler is the highest point in South Tyrol and thus the main summit of the Ortler range. During our touring week, we will climb the most beautiful mountains of the Ortler range and of course the Ortler itself. We will stay in cozy mountain huts and enjoy the South Tyrolean cuisine.
Meeting point 12:00 in Sulden. Here your mountain guide will greet you and check the equipment, before he goes through the tour program with you. We will then make our way up to the Schaubach Hut (Rifugio Città di Milano) 2581m. Ascent 665 m, time on trail approx. 2.5 hrs.
Two summits are on the program today: the Eisseespitze (Punta del Lago Gelato)3230 m and the Suldenspitze (Cima di Solda) 3376 m. From the summit, we will be able to get a glimpse of the Gran Zebrù and the Ortler, before we make our way down to the Casati Hut (Rifugio Casati) 3254m. Ascent 795 m, descent 122 m, time on trail approx. 6.5 hrs.
The Monte Cevedale 3769 m is the highest summit of Trentino. From here we will descend to the Hintergrat Hut (Rifugio del Coston)2662m. Ascent 515 m, descent 1200 m, time on trail approx. 8 hrs.
Today, we have a leisurely day ahead of us. The path leads us to the Payer Hut (Rifugio Payer) 3029m, which is the starting point for the ascent of the Ortler. Ascent 700 m, time on trail approx. 5,5 hrs.
We will start early in the morning on the so-called rock path into the northern flank of the Punta Tabaretta. Here we climb up to the ridge via the head of the rock and the rock face secured with steel chains. Coming past the Bucco dell’Orso (Bear Hole) and the Lombardi bivouac, we reach the glacier. Now follows the very steep firn or ice slope up to 35° steepness and then we climb moderately ascending terrain to the summit of the Ortler 3905 m. We will descend along same path back to the Tabaretta Hut (Rifugio Tabaretta) 2566m. Depending on our physical condition we will either stay another night in the hut or walk directly back to the valley. Ascent 896 m, descent 1339 m, time on trail approx. 8 hrs.
Descent to Sulden, Descent 660 m, time on trail approx. 3hrs. Return journey.
